Hi :-)
I hoped I'd be better at keeping up with this, but February ended up being a bit hectic...
I was in the studio three days a week, juggling two other jobs, and then spent ten days on the road with my friend Luke (Sital-Singh), driving him around the UK for his album tour (it’s out, and it’s really good). Basically, I’ve been saying yes to everything to keep the money flowing and afford some nice things for this album… or just, things in general.
Yesterday, I finally returned to the studio after a little hiatus. The good news is, I didn’t hate everything I heard. The bad news is there’s still a lot of work left to do. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still fun, but when you’re doing it all yourself, that’s a lot of wires still left to trip over.
For my next post, I might dive deeper into the album and the songs—maybe share what I’m trying to accomplish with it. Maybe? Yeah?
For now, I’ve updated my Special Delivery playlist with what I’ve been listening to over the past couple of weeks. My top three are:
Joy Crookes - Mathematics (ft. Kano)
The first Joy Crookes song I heard was "Poison," which I was obsessed with all of 2021. I think I’ll be just as obsessed with this one for most of 2025. The vocals and production are effortlessly matched and timeless, and those toms are the best I’ve heard in a long time.Sam Fender - Remember My Name
A brass band? YES, PLEASE.
Finally got around to listening to Sam’s latest album, and I think it’s my favorite so far! The songwriting and Adam Granduciel's production are spot on. I could also listen to Sam say “whippet” all day. Another favorite from the album is "Something Heavy"Role Model - So Far Gone (ft. Lizzy McAlpine)
This guy is everywhere on my TikTok, and while I’m still not sure what I think of the whole thing, there’s no denying that this song is a gem. The Lizzy McAlpine backing vocals in the chorus soothe me like nothing else.

Thank you for letting us know your progress! I am happy to hear you had a good time touring. The Substack you write feels so personal and I am so happy that you share the behind the scenes of your album! Xxx Lara
Lovely to read Dan! I think of anyone creating music as a miracle… but I can hear / see / believe there’s a lot of hard work to get it all out there. So thank you! Thanks for all the hard work in and out of the studio.
